Wes Hester, the deputy news editor with the Richmond Times-Dispatch, has been named editor of The Daily Progress.

Hester, 38, is a Goochland County native, a graduate of the College of William & Mary and Christchurch School. The award-winning journalist joined the Times-Dispatch in 2008 and has reported on the General Assembly, Congress, U.S. Senate races and 2012 presidential election.

Hester currently leads the Times-Dispatch's seven-member reporting team covering local government, education and crime. He will take over the reins of The Daily Progress in early September.

Hester succeeds Nick Mathews, who served in the position for 14 months and left earlier this month to pursue other opportunities.
