Community Journalism Workshop 2014

About 20 journalists from a variety of Virginia publications attended the latest installment of the Virginia Press Association's Community Journalism Workshop.

During the two-day "boot camp" for journalists, they learned about improving interviewing techniques, how to create better multimedia to complement written stories and how to use the Freedom of Information Act to gain access to government meetings and documents.

After the first day, Stephen Cowles of The Tidewater News called the sessions "informative."

Each of the participants also received a one-on-one critique with instructors Anne Adams of The Recorder in Monterrey, Lawrence K. "Lou" Emerson of, Katrice Hardy of The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk, and Jeff Lester of The Coalfield Progress in Norton.
